Dancing Dragons and Taoist Tai Chi Demo
Today I joined the festivities of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and celebrated Chinese New Year and Valentines Day by taking part in a Dragon Dance and mass demonstration of Taoist Tai Chi at the O-Zone in Richmond. Over 400 members of the Taoist Tai Chi Society participated in this event in front of thousands of people. What fun we all had! Dragon Chasing the Pearl – This dragon is 100 meters long and supported by about 75 members. It’s Canada’s longest Chinese-style dragon. The dragon is a symbol of luck in Chinese culture.
Dragon Kiss – of course it’s Valentine’s Day 🙂
Taoist Tai Chi Demo – Don’t we look great in those black sweat pants, red sweatshirts and yellow scarves? It’s the middle of winter and we were enjoying blue skies and sunshine in Richmond, just south of Vancouver, BC.
I have been studying Tai Chi and Qi Gong for about 13 years now. In the beginning, I had just stopped drinking and because I am a recovering alcoholic, at the time I needed something to do and a way back to health. I met a Chinese Sifu, (master) by the Name of Ken Cho whose entire family taught Tai Chi. Donald (his English name) taught with great skill and compassion. He saved my life. Admittedly I had to do the work and practice both at class and home but without his teaching I would not have advanced to my present-day health. When he moved out of my area, I asked him what I should do. His answer surprised me…”Now you teach!” And to this day I have tried to teach with some success. I am 68 and in great shape, all attributed to Sifu Ken Cho. Thanks for reading!
