Follow Your Bliss to the Life of Your Dreams
This article appeared originally in Blissings Ezine November 2005.
If you want the experience of living, fully and joyously, in each moment, then follow your bliss. It’s what we are meant to do – it is why we are here.
Bliss is that “high on life” feeling when everything flows effortlessly. It is that feeling we get from watching a magnificent sunset exploding with a burst of red and orange colours; or watching sunbeams dance merrily on the water; or that peak experience when two bodies come together as one.
Listen to Your Heart
Following your bliss means listening to your heart in every moment, in every aspect of your life – your relationships, your finances, and your well-being. The more we flow with life, the more confident and loving we are, the more we have access to infinite possibilities. Making the decision to follow your bliss is the beginning of expansion in every way.
Like most good advice, following our bliss sounds simple, but it’s hardly easy. We all find ourselves constantly forced to choose between what we should do and what our hearts are telling us to do. That nagging little voice of ego or social conscience in our head speaks loudly reminding us of the promises and commitments we made to others, of the things we need to do to maintain the status quo. So we do the right thing – the shoulds and musts, only to discover, somewhere down the road, that our over-committed life leaves us feeling unfulfilled and depressed.
Joseph Campbell, the famous philosopher, said,
“When you follow your bliss… doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors, and where there wouldn’t be a door for anyone else.”
How it Works for Me
I’ve been a follow-your-bliss coach for the past few years and still I get tested; still I get torn choosing between my mind or ego thoughts and my heart’s desires. Recently a friend approached me and asked me to speak on her radio talk show about what I do – which is help people to create a life that honours their hearts desires.
I was torn. How could I find the time to prepare for the 13 teleclasses that I had already committed to as well as a talk show? The classes that I’d been running for the past six months were born out of a commitment to follow my bliss; they were incredibly successful, and yet in order for me to say yes to this new door opening before me I had to say no to something else.
What to do? What to do? I decided to follow the direction my heart was guiding me in and I postponed the next session of teleclasses and said yes to my talk show friend. Suddenly everything my friend and I needed to make our ideas happen came in a rush. Doors we didn’t even know existed opened and connections were made; our creative energy rose higher and higher. We excitedly expanded our plans – the talk show could be a weekly program carried on radio stations across Canada. High on life we surged with ideas and energy; it felt like bliss.
Following my bliss always feels the same way; it’s a life-giving feeling that comes from making a heart-driven choice.
What about You?
Right about now you might be thinking: “I haven’t a clue what my bliss is!” You’re wrong – you do know because we all have an Impeccable Guide that – in every moment – is communicating to us what our hearts’ desire; you only have to pay attention to your intuition (your gut feeling). Tune in to what your gut feeling is telling you to do, where it wants you to go, and whom it wants you to see.
The Key to Following the Path of Bliss
Again, the key to following the path of bliss is simple; it’s just not easy. It requires you to tell yourself the truth about how you FEEL- absolutely and fiercely. This takes courage and practice.
Consider the following powerful questions –
• Is what you are doing right now adding to your life energy or dragging you down?
• Do you make decisions from inspiration and joy, or from obligation and fear?
• In this moment are you standing in your power or are you trying to please others?
Living a life of fulfilled happiness means listening to your heart in every moment, in every aspect of your life – your relationships, your finances, and your well-being.
When I’m teaching others how to achieve their bliss – on the air, through my teleclasses, or by personal coaching – I am flowing with life; I feel confident and loving and full of the infinite possibilities of a blissful life.
Bliss is the place where we connect with the pure positive energy of our Source, the home of our True Self. If you want the experience of living, fully and joyously, in each moment, then follow your bliss. It’s what we are meant to do – it is why we are here.
